Power is how much load it takes to bend the rod. Start with the real fishing job: the complete rig, hook wire, cover, lure pull, line, and the amount of control you need once a fish is hooked.

A lighter rod helps a small bait cast, protects light line, and keeps a fine hook from tearing out. More power helps drive a stout hook and turn a fish before it reaches cover. The trick is to use enough rod—not the most rod. Too little power leaves a hook half-set or a fish buried. Too much makes the bait harder to cast and work, then punishes the hook when the fish surges.

Choose the lightest power that can cast the finished rig, drive the actual hook, and land the fish in the cover you are fishing. If no Core rod does all three honestly, that is a Custom Build conversation.
