The Deceptive Edge

The MB872 redefines what a Medium-power casting rod can handle. Built on a 45-Million Modulus Toray High-Modulus Carbon Fiber blank with a Nano-Resin matrix system — optimized for impact resistance and high toughness to eliminate the brittleness associated with high-modulus graphite — this rod delivers a crisp, fast, and highly responsive tip for working lighter baits with absolute precision, backed by an unexpectedly powerful mid and butt section. When a quality fish hits a light wire hook, the tip handles the finesse presentation flawlessly while the heavy-duty backbone locks up instantly to give you total control over hard-charging fish. It looks like a finesse rod. It fishes like a weapon.

Precision Placement. Hidden Strength.

At 7 feet 3 inches, this blank bridges a massive tactical gap in your boat, allowing you to bring casting accuracy and winching power to lighter freshwater techniques that are typically reserved for spinning gear. The extra length creates a smooth, efficient loading profile that effortlessly launches lightweight plastics and topwaters great distances. Whether you are aiming at the bank, hitting an isolated pond lane, or picking apart structured current, this rod gives you the mechanical leverage to steer lunkers away from trouble without sacrificing the subtle touch required to trigger the bite.

The MB872 isn't just a light rod — it's your stealth weapon. It is the ultimate crossover solution for anglers who demand extreme finesse execution without compromising on raw pulling power.

Primary Techniques
  • Underspins (Deep Structure & Current) — the 7'3" length maximizes casting distance and line control when working an underspin over deep clear-water structure or tracking fish through river current; the Fast tip keeps the blade turning naturally while the Medium backbone drives the hook home at distance
  • Worming & Light Plastics — incredible sensitivity to feel the lightest tap, with enough backbone to drive light-wire hooks home instantly
  • Weightless 5" Senkos — the Medium Fast blank loads a weightless Senko perfectly for effortless skipping and long-distance casting on casting gear, with the backbone to move fish away from cover on the hookset
  • Texas-Rigged Finesse Worms — the crisp Fast tip telegraphs every subtle tick and pressure bite, but total presentation payloads must remain within the 1/4–3/4 oz limit to properly load the blank
  • Topwater Lures — ideal tip speed and length to effortlessly walk small-to-mid-sized topwater plugs, poppers, and unweighted soft plastics across structural edges
  • Lighter Freshwater Baits — perfect for handling downsized jigs, smaller spinnerbaits, and finesse swimbaits that require a lighter touch but stouter backbone
What Else This Rod Can Do

MB872 — 7'3" Medium Fast Casting. The Finesse Enforcer.

Freshwater Techniques

  • Smallmouth Bass: The open-water smallmouth specialist. Exceptional casting distance and line control for underspins and finesse presentations over deep rock transitions and current breaks.
  • Black Bass: The ultimate weapon for weightless Senkos, light Texas rigs, trick worms, and downsized finesse jigs.
  • Walleye: Excellent tracking and responsiveness for working hair jigs, small minnow plugs, and live-bait rigs over deep transitions.
  • Northern Pike: Highly capable of handling mid-sized inline spinners and target-casting soft plastics around shallow weedlines.

Inshore Saltwater Techniques

  • Speckled Trout & Redfish: Exceptional crossover capability for working jigs along shallow flats or pitching plastics around oyster bars where a sensitive tip feels the lightest grass tick.
  • Snook: Great for throwing lighter twitchbaits and paddletails along sandy beach troughs or shadow lines where accuracy is paramount.
Borderline & Conditional Techniques
  • Northern Pike Inline Spinners (Large Blades): Safe for small to mid-sized pike, but #5 or #6 French blades create massive water resistance that can overload a Medium power Fast tip. Keep to smaller blade sizes and lighter retrieves; step up to the MB873 or MB874 for large pike presentations with big blades.
  • Heavy Cover & Overloaded Payloads: The MB872 Medium power and 3/4 oz ceiling are not appropriate for heavy cover extraction, heavy-wire hooks, or any payload exceeding 3/4 oz total weight. This blank is engineered for finesse and medium-light applications on casting gear — overloading it kills sensitivity and risks blank stress on hard hooksets in cover. Use the MB873 for medium-heavy applications and the MB874 for heavy cover and power fishing.
